Women Against the War in the Gulf has a vital role to play in the fight against war – the anti war movement must pull out all the stops to build on its strengths. Since the new year Women Against War in the Gulf has taken off in a big way. A vigil outside the Foriegn Office began on January 11th and has been kept up despite arrests. This has managed to break through some of the censorship surrounding the war.
Women Against the War in the Gulf has a vital role to play in linking up with women who have relatives in the forces – many of whom are isolated and scared. It can also play a central role in linking up with health workers most affected by the war drive, the majority of whom are low paid, undervalued women workers. Both of these things can help to turn the anti war movement out towards the ordinary working class women and men it needs to reach if it is to build mass action.
