Fighting for a Europe without Borders
Refugees and anti-racist activists from 18 countries have already registered for the Barbed Wire Europe conference in Oxford on September 15-17.
It which will provide an important opportunity for campaigners across Europe to compare notes on the spread of immigration detention and launch new proposals for action.
In Britain in particular, there is a tendency for some in the movement to be unaware of the extent to which the reactionary measures and attitudes we confront are common across the European Community - indeed are an integral part of the whole project of European integration.
So it is a particularly useful opportunity for us that the Close Campsfield campaign is hosting this third conference on a Europe wide level - the two previous ones having been organised by the French anti-racist organisation FASTI.
The conference will adjourn to carry out some practical solidarity and demonstrate outside Campsfield House - where activists from the Civil Rights caravan will also join us.

European governments are increasingly using detention as a way of criminalising, marginalising and deporting refugees and other migrants. Immigration detention promotes racism. Immigration detention has removed the presumption of freedom as detainees have to prove their case for freedom. Their loss is ours.
Detention centres are multiplying, but so is resistance. This is the third European conference against immigration detention organised by the growing network of campaigns against them. Places should be booked as soon as possible as they are limited and certainly by August 14th
