Doubts hang over Leeds Left Alliance

THE LEEDS branch of the Left Alliance recently held its AGM. On the positive together the left in Leeds. Even the SWP were repsorked. However, tre future direction of Left Alliance is uncertain. A discussion on the local elections in May did a strategy. Confidence was expressed that there are rains to oe made against Labour and the community type politics.

The recent OFSTED report into Leeds LEA was the subject of Ively discussion. The meeting agreed to oppose privatisation, but again a stratComrades suggested that many Councillors agreed were unhappy with the way the LEA has been run but they were the council leadership. It was decided that a prionty must be campaigning for the re-election of Councillor Garth Frankland in Chapel Allerton ward. Garth resigned the Labour whip in disgust at the continulocal and British level of the Labour Party. Other ties were set by the group for the year. hopes of establishing tself as an altemative to Labour electorally.

At the same time, after the Euro-elections, it seems to be struggling to be operating.
