got 5.2% of the vote and took 5 seats. Alain Krivine, leading member of the Ligue and FI, was elected to the European Parliament alongside Arlette Laguiller of LO. The success of the LCR/LO slate puts on the agenda a debate on greater co-operation and unity of socialists to the left of the traditional social democratic parties. Europe-wide mobi lisations against attacks on social provision are being organised by forces on the left like the Fourth Interhationa l. Over 50,000 trades-unionists from across Europe recently demonstrated in Cologne outside the EU summ lit. An internationalist resistance is being organised. On his first visit 1 to Britian since being elected Alain Krivine will be explaining how, in France and across Europe, the Fourth : International will be using the platform of the European Parliament to further the struggle of workers fighting back against international capital's austerity programme.
