THE MANY comrades in Britain who knew her will be deeply saddened by the death in South Africa of Kate Truscott, after a long battle with cancer.

Kate became active in revolutionary politics in Britain. but at the time of her death Committee of the Workers Organisation for Socialist Action (WOSA). the South African revolutionary organisation.

She was responsible for E WOSA's women's commissien and helped produce. newspaper and theoretital Her first involvement in politics in the late 1960s was in the Vietnam and women's liberation movements and in the National Abortion Campaign.

As a militant shop steward in the NHS she particpated in an 18-month hospital occupation and joined the revolution. ary organisation Big Flame.

Later, after working in Socialist Unity election cam paigns she joined the International Marxist Group and moved to Zimbabwe as a supporter of the Fourth international.

In Zimbabwe Kate was 3 founding member of the Zimbabwe Women's Action group and worked as an organiser of rural women's organisations.

Working with exile South Africans she entered that country as a courier, establishing contact with early COSATU and clandestine socialist groups, before deciding to move to South Africa permanently.

Kate was genuinely non sectarian, actively pluralist in her socialism. passionately anti-racist and uncompromisShe was an accomplished poet, singer, painter and photographer. Before her death she bequeathed her legacy for the counston or a socialist education centre to promote the politics she believed in.
