KATE MAGEE, an Irish voman living in Derby, is rific experiences under the provisions of the racist revention of Terrorism Act Kate was detained on 14 \pril last year following the lling of an army recruiting of ficer in Derby the previous day. Her son was put into care against her wishes, and she was not allowed to communicate with him for six days. The sixyear-old was eventually eased into the custody of Kate's sister.

After nine days incommunicado detention, Kate was charged under the PTA with "failure to disclose information", and under ordinary law with "impeding the arrest or prosecution of person or persons unknown"

Her brother was named by police as wanted for questioning in connection with the killin which was claimed by the Insh National Liberation Army. Joseph Magee has since been arLimerick, where he is being held, and is contesting attempts to extradite him to Britain.

Kate was moved to Durham prison and strip-searched on many occasions, even after a visit from an Irish embassy repTese was alomed ickeptone She was allowed telephone calls to relatives only on condition she did not reveal where she was It was sixteen days after her arrest before an Irish pusoners werrare organisaaon discovered her whereabouts.

After 75 days she was given restricted bail on two sureties of €10,000 each and instructions to report to root motorm every day. charge has now been dropped. On her return, Kate discovered her home had been ripped to pieces, with all the pipes pulled out and doors kicked in.
