Such a coalition would be anything but grand. Whichever party was dictating the agenda, it would be a weak and 488I08 phous bloc. And it is the last thing that is needed to beat back the far right Republikaner and DVU (German People's Union).

But the far right do need to be fought. And Germany is a long way from building the mass movement that is necessary to beat back the threat. SPD ac tivists would be better occupied in this than in trying to hatch deals with the CDU.
