be outside of the Labour Party I would still support the view of Labour Party Socialists as reported by Pete Firmin in SO11 Namely that while socialists in the Labour Party will probabIv have only a marginal impact on whether Labour wins and, particulariy, how it wins the election that doesn't mean that there is nothmo matnecas to ceaone, ciear ly there are still struggles intervene in and arguments Iam puzzied then, to see Firmin arguing that it is the worst the class struggie. Puzzied be cause the class struggle in the thirties was not so grim as Firmin seems to think. It was the time after all when the Communist Party did the groland work tor many of s maustral groups which had so much inDec. 14, 1991 No. 13 fluence after the war up to the 1970s. But puzzled also by the imputanon that thuies are that grim now.

True, there are no large scale strikes or struggles just at the employing side exactly in mood. The Tóries flounder over every which they touch and while sive in industry. they can certainly bestopped if workers can free themseives of the 'do nothing until you hear from me' influence of the trade union
