But there is no cause for complacency. The right to self-organisation for women and her oppressed groups withi ALGO ho been a narafought battle. There have been many pitfalls along the way for activists campaigning for repre sentation and structures based on self-org anisation.
In 1989 NALGO held its first national conference for women Demands were placed upon the leadership to implement its decisions. These ncluded proposals around the National Nomen's Committer and other structures to organise and represent women in the union. It also demanded the right to a direct input into NALGO's annual conference.
