THE attempt by the Tory council in Brent to de-recognise UNISON collapsed together with their control of the Council when a Tory Councillor died.
There was a lobby outside of several hundred UNISON members and supporters from around the country. The Tories tried to cance the meeting as a mark of respect.

There is visible relief among council employees at their departure. But the borough at large has not forgotten the tating cuts.
The Left needs now to develop a strategy to fight for the reversal of Tory cuts and the expansion of services without falling into calling for a mas. sive hike in the council tax.
