THE RISE OF RACISM in France today has led to a spate of attacks on North Africans. Such attacks are nothing new. Thirty years ago this month the Algerian community was brutally attackea by French police and dozens were killed. This massacre has almost been witten out of history.
17 October 17 1961, 50,000 Algerians marched in racist curfew in force. They were not allowed on the streets after 8pm. Cafes frequented by 'French Muslims' had to shut at 7pm.
