• By Mark Jasen and Linn Hiort The campaign.
the building of the M11 motorway through East London recieved a great deal of media attention with the establishment of "Wanstonia" in January.
Two squats declared themselves to be an independant state and thus provided a focus for the campaign which incorporates a wide range of issues, from the defence of local homes to national transport policy..
Following the eviction from Wanstonia, after days of confrontations with riot police and bailiffs, activists are determined to continue the struggle and have established a new base in Claremont Road, Leytonstone, using an imaginative combination of tactics.
Though the confrontations with police seem inevitable, campaigners have also turned the road into a living art form, painting houses both inside and out, and organising street parties and direct actions every week.
This road will save travellers just seven minutes! Youth in 'Wanstonia' are at the front of the fight
